FTL: Faster Than Light

Captains Log @ The Daves:

First Day - With David, Doris, Dave
Met some hostile slave-traders. Denied slave request using brute force. They surrendered to us a Mantis Man. Welcome aboard Giles
Discovered a planet with plague and rioting. Helped prevented rioting and gained resources, but lost David to the infection.
Mercenary scum?. I would kill them all, but with just Dave and Doris, it may get a bit rough, so I'll pass.
Came across a nebula and found a damaged ship. Recovered surviving crew member, aka GMFaux.
Attacked by a rebel drone ship in a vicinity close to a sun. Running low on missiles, but shot its sorry ass back to the sun. Also got scraps.
Escaped solar flares. Most of the ship surprisingly flammable, managed to jump out of there. Giles also surprisingly flammable.
Ship still mostly sauteed, but met some neutral slave-traders. Denied request to trade. Accepted request to PARTY (with wrenches).
More Mercenaries in a rebel fighter. Space Scum! We can totally take this guy, and we're one jump away from the exit.
As expected, blasting the piloting part of the ship makes them surrender with great hasty. We accept their offer for missiles and scraps. NOT.
Hull destroyed, leaving us with twice the offer, um, offered, and fuel. Jolly good show!
A distress signal! A station on fire! We try to dock, as this is least likely to get us killed, but the ship fails to dock properly. Oh well, more scrap.

Exeunt! Let's visit the Engi!

More Art, but not too much.

Just two today.
Ich bin sehr müde... (und ALT + 0252 ist ein umlaut)
Some kind of fold up and retractable blaster.

Time for more art!

The scanner is now in mah room so I'll probably scan pictures more often.
This is also to scale with my hand so there.

The Classic Classroom Dilemma

Why exactly is it, that upon entering a class room there will always be something written on the board which is more complicated than whatever you're currently studying.
Even when you're in the highest school year...

On a side note, if scientists did hypothetically create a weather machine and caused it to start snowing, are they allowed to excuse themselves from work the following day by claiming they've been snowed in?

Saturday, 10 November 2012

My little sister wrote this comic

A bit early I would say.
Also someone plays too many sandbox games...

Also the most epic thing ever played on radio. That is, of course, a two-hour marathon of video-game music.

Tuesday, 6 November 2012

Got around to scanning these.

Positive and Negative Thinking - Leaving a Useful Comment

I feel obliged to write about this due to the sheer poor quality of comments left on some sites (if you want an example, look at any video on youtube). There are several types of comments made for various media, but they all boil down to either praise or hate. Say someone drew a picture:
It's called "Stick man reads a book on a park bench".
Now there often comments that express how much a person likes it:
this is amazeing thing i have ever seen good job
Or comments about how people would like it to burn off the face of the earth:
wat is this @$%& do u think ur some kindof pro?u fail at drawing forvver
Whilst both of these, in sufficient quantities, give the artist a general idea about how popular his/her work may be, it does not actually mean much at above that.

Cipher Challenge

Is being hosted by some university, and it is pretty awesome when you know what you're doing.

There's also a relatively good website out there that helps to decipher the code by means of digital pen and paper, so that helps a bit too.

You can contact my team @

A poum with words like a flowing river. Into a dam.

It's quite hard not to shed a tear,
When everything starts going wrong,
And you feel like as though it's all gone downhill,
Down the path you don't wish to belong.

It's quite hard not to shed a tear,
When you think there's no chance to recover,
And you try your best just to keep afloat,
But your boat is torn asunder.

It's quite hard not to shed a tear,
When realise your work is in vain,
And you try to look past it to find a solution,
To find your solution insane.

It's quite hard not to shed a tear,
But take reign, form a plan, take control.
Wash your face, think it through and climb up that hill,
And you'll find it's worth taking the toll.

Various Things

Drawing a comic for the School Newspaper, which I'll post later.
Participated in the House Festival via Robocode and won, with our house victorious by 3 points.
Also a great article about Beer and Australia. A pint or a pot, or maybe a schooner or middy. Perhaps you'd prefer a butcher.

Flash Animation Test

It's funny because you'd have to be some kind of superman or weirdo to pull that off in real life. But this is an animation so it's all k.

Edited version of my previous piece, now with a less confusing name and a bit longer.

Those pictures?

These pictures.
Luckily that wasn't a brick wall. Otherwise that'd be vandalism.

This had a title but now it has a different title

Still haven't got around to scanning the sketches. Not like anyone actually wants to see them, but in the meanwhile have this piece of alliterative apathy (or not, it's your choice).

I finished It

This is some more music, AKA the stuff I said I would finish eventually.

Also some sketches I did on a trip, but that'll come when I scan/photograph it.

I think I drew this because of a conversation I had with some friends

Loud Saxophone

I was loud

She is very loud, and it hurts my ears to be in the room right next to her when she's practising.

Wot a lot of pot

Did a whole bunch of admin. You can now view my stuff with new-fangled tags which are more specific than just stuff I made.

Happy Face.

Also have I mentioned Udacity before? Because If I haven't, this is Udacity. It is pretty awesome, and provides various online computer courses. And in case you've forgotten, this is Udacity.

Rant Over.

Work In Progress

I'm not exactly finishing it any time soon, but here it is anyway.

Monday, 20 August 2012

The Challenge, Week 2

So what actually is The Challenge?

But of course a website doesn't really tell you much, so I guess I can elaborate on what has actually happened, unlike the previous rather half-heartedly approached post.

Anyway, Week 1, the challengers and staff arrived via coach to Cumbria, had dinner, got shown around and led to the appropriate dormitories. As there are less boys, the rooms were shared between 4, whereas the girls had to share rooms between 6. The day after involved getting up, getting dressed and heading to the main centre for breakfast, packed lunches and a quick briefing of the day's activities.

Went to them. Watched basketball. Walked for ages. West ham train station is really far away.

Gunna haf ta do it again for the Paralympics.

Saturday, 28 July 2012

Them Olympics

The opening was a bit weird, but cool. Surprised that there was not even a small mention of Doctor Who, except that bit with the TARDIS noise. Fancy copper petal fire cauldron thing too.

And I composed this in the time it took for the ceremony to finish.

Friday, 27 July 2012

Level Up!

Work experience is finished, and I even got offered a temporary job, but I'm too young to get paid, so whatever.

More Gaming Rants

Today I feel like ranting about games, specifically RPGs.

A lot of RPGs involve a balance between 2 things, Story and Gameplay, as you know, but there is also another balance within gameplay itself: Introduction of new game mechanics, and using them. The reason why I'm phrasing it like that is so the following examples and comparisons may make more sense maybe.

The introduction of gameplay mechanics in RPGs generally fall into new areas, enemies, skills etc. - basically new content to make the game interesting. Using them, or playing around with them - as is the point of a game - often falls into the usage of what you know to fight enemies, solve puzzles and whatnot. However, a lot of games then fall into the grinding as a means of increasing game time, which is not cool. This is what happens when you have too much of making the player use the abilities they have repetitively. A common example is the standard JRPG.

Restaurant Driveways

This is what happens at them. All the time.

Also it seems the best comics I can draw are comics simply about my life, and in particular my slightly eccentric, hyper-active sister. It's easy to write a script for, sketch and complete, since I know exactly what I'm doing. Or not. Also she makes a very good muse due to her general everything.

Rant Over.

Some stuff

A Ladder!

A Sword!

While I find out why my internet got broked and I can't upload properly.

Tuesday, 10 July 2012

I tried to open a tin can...

True Story

And the overall energy spent by trying to use a ready meal canned product rather than the alternative was not really worth it. Except it prompted me to try and learn how to use these can-openers.

Oh yeah, turns out my second attempt was actually right, but it needed to be sideways.

(Comic) Rant Over.

Road Rage

This happened not more than an hour ago. Another rule is that no matter how empty a road may be, there WILL be several cars parked exactly around the area you need to park at.

My Internet

Seems to be broken as normally expected at this time of day.

Friday, 6 July 2012

You know the computer hates you when...

The program you're using crashes when you load a file.
The program you're using freezes up as soon as you try an input.
The program you're trying to run does not run.
The computer decides to break itself when you leave it alone for two weeks.
The program you're using has an auto-save feature which brings you back to just before the long and tedious bit the program decides to crash on when you finish.
The program crashes when you press the save button.

Thank you for viewing the trial version of the "You know the computer hates you when..." post. Many new features are available in the full version, such as unlocking the "Expand »" button. For further viewing enjoyment, please enter your License Key or Buy Online!

Another music post

I should really add extra tags for specifics types of media that I do. But that would take more effort and I probably would forget anyway.
Because I can't really think of anything better right now.

Sketchup Sketch

Apparently it's part of Trimble or something now. Sounds a bit like that weird creature from Star Trek.

Also I added a funny picture to the header because I can.

More RO, and scan cleaning

Did some scan cleaning for some random manga my friends are translating, and played a bit of RO.

Insert Post Eventually

So, I was going to post something, but I don't have the required time or effort. I had a rough idea though, So I'll get back to you on that.

Friday, 25 May 2012

Apparently I was born on a Thursday. That's pretty awesome, it's my second favourite day.
Checking out various stuffs, and also the theory that clothes make the man:

Maybe sort of but nor really I guess?

Dunno, have some place-holder sprites for a non-existent hack&slash game.
And this is why I sometimes think a dark background is really awkward, whenever I'm handling alpha channels.

Music Genre-ing

Tango. Not the drink.

Hmm. It seems that, of my hobbies, music composition is the most difficult and time-consuming. This, unfortunately, leads to a lot of short, or half finished pieces. Maybe I should compile them together eventually.

Or not.

I should write a story. Then illustrate it.

Or not.

Sunday, 6 May 2012

Has been working

Space Station 13. Heard of it?

Yeah, thought so.

Anyway, as part of a portfolio, aka the main reason of this blog, I have been working on development of one of the game's many server branches. Sprite dump incoming!

The National Music Festival, In Birmingham.

This thing.

I will be performing in it as part of an orchestra, as we have just received word that the orchestra has passed through the initial stages of the competition to perform there. Or something.

Tom and Jerry, the New Series

So my sister is watching another nostalgic series, mentioned already in the title. However, the new episodes of it are rather... missing the point.

When you watch Tom and Jerry, you are not only watching the titular characters getting up to their own tricks, but listening to the accompanying music and audio cues. It's what made the series great, using mixes of different classical music and sounds in tandem with the hilarious animations.

But whatever the producers of the current series think is what made Tom and Jerry, they got it wrong. Now it acts more like most standard american cartoons (see Spongebob, Fairy Odd Parents etc.). There is no actual music used, just random audio mixed in to an amalgam of sound effects. More talking too, which detracts from appreciation of the flow of the episode.

Why am I complaining? Because I can.

Rant Over.

And so starts the Easter Holiday.

I'm tired.

Huang's World Proverbs Pt.3

A house divided against itself means the architect did a lazy job.

The best way to a man's heart is through his ribcage.

There are none so blind as those who are blind.

Ignorance is stupid.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you 'till afterwards.

Huang's World Proverbs Pt.2

All that glitters is probably worth stealing.

A dog is a man's best lunch.

All's well that ends well doesn't end well.

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a (third of a) day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him to the fishes.

Don't let your daughter-in-law eat your autumn eggplants.

Huang's World Proverbs Pt.1

The cornered rat bites, the cat, which in turn murders the rat.

He who laughs last, has laughed most recently.

Once bitten, twice shy, thrice paranoid.

A bird in hand is worth two pounds at your local pet store.

Over long distance, you learn about the strength of your horse - and kill it in the process.

So I made a house in GMod. Then had lots of fun trashing it. Which brings me on to today's rant, Creation vs Destruction.

Well its not really very well thought out, I just decided to do it.
